چکیده

Building foundation piles can be used as heat exchangers in ground-source pump (GSHP) systems to provide highly efficient renewable heating and cooling (H&C). Unbalanced H&C loads lead build-up the ground, decreasing system's overall performance. In this study, introduction of natural ventilation (NV) has been examined decrease load imbalance cooling-dominated buildings improve system efficiency. energy simulations estimated for an office building three Portuguese cities: Lisbon, Porto Faro, yielding 0.2–3.6 MWh/year 260–450 MWh/year. Four technology scenarios were assess performance: (1) air-source (ASHP) system; (2) a GSHP utilizing piles; (3) hybrid ASHP-NV (4) GSHP-NV. Over 50 years operation, Scenario COP values 2.45–2.55 (heating) 3.62–4.15 (cooling) obtained. (2), increased 4.15–4.34 but fell 3.36–3.79 (cooling), which annual final needs by 7–8%. ground temperature 21–24 °C, is unlikely acceptable. Compared (1), introducing NV reduced 65–90% Scenarios (4), with 59–80% 62–88%, respectively. A further benefit GSHP-NV that increase was limited 8‑12 °C. For cooling, decreased compared (3.14–3.69), while improved 3.45–6.10. This study concludes should considered some scenarios.

Feasibility study on novel hybrid ground coupled heat pump system with nocturnal cooling radiator for cooling load dominated buildings

When the ground coupled heat pump (GCHP) system is utilized for air conditioning in cooling load dominated buildings, the heat rejected into ground will accumulate around the ground heat exchangers (GHE) and results in system performance degradation. A novel hybrid ground coupled heat pump (HGCHP) system with nocturnal cooling radiator (NCR) works as supplemental heat rejecter is proposed in th...

Cutting household ventilation to improve energy efficiency.

If global emissions of greenhouse gases continue on their present trajectory, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) projects that the world may be more than 4°C warmer in 2100 than in 1861-80. To hold warming to less than 2°C on average, the level often cited as the threshold of dangerous climate change, emissions must be reduced radically. For example, theWorld Bank estimated th...

Energy efficiency model for small/medium geothermal heat pump systems

Heating application efficiency is a crucial point for saving energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Today, EU legal framework conditions clearly define how heating systems should perform, how buildings should be designed in an energy efficient manner and how renewable energy sources should be used. Using heat pumps (HP) as an alternative “Renewable Energy System” could be one solution fo...

From Buildings to Smart Buildings - Sensing and Actuation to Improve Energy Efficiency

Commercial buildings consume a significant amount of energy today and are slated to consume even more in the future. This consumption necessitates the use of carbon-producing fuels such as coal and natural gas, both of which have significant environmental impacts. While renewable energy sources remain promising, it is expected that most of the electricity generation will still use fossil fuels ...

Heat exchanger technology and applications: ground source heat pump system for buildings heating and cooling

The earth’s surface acts as a huge solar collector, absorbing radiation from the sun. In the UK, the ground maintains a constant temperature of 11-13oC several metres below the surface all the year around.1 Among many other alternative energy resources and new potential technologies, the ground source heat pumps (GSHPs) are receiving increasing interest because of their potential to reduce prim...
